What is the local 20-year sash replacement rule?

Why the age and condition of an existing unit matter when reviewing sash replacement in Omaha and Lincoln.

By Scott Dunfield · Product guidance reviewed October 2026

The answer

Pella of Omaha/Lincoln requires full-unit replacement for products 20 years old or older.

Older sashes and frames can change shape together. A new square sash may not fit or seal correctly in a frame that has warped, twisted or moved out of square.

Start with the existing product.

Send overall interior and exterior photos, a readable product label or serial number if available, and close-ups of the area in question. Identify the room and elevation so the photos can be matched to the correct opening.

Use the window identification photo checklist to get started. For a storm project, the hail documentation guide explains what information to collect.

Review the specific project before finalizing the scope.

Product identification, frame condition and current replacement availability need to be reviewed together. These pages explain product and local service guidance; they do not determine an insurance company’s coverage decision.
